Beware the cowken: Makes strange sounds early in the morning and will give your shins a wicked stabbing!

Gives the best eggnog on the planet!

Hey, I don't have any words of wisdom this week - just weirdness - too much Olympics, Mars, and heat! - if any of you have suggestions for me to blog about I'm all ears!

  1. Suggestions:
1.) How to start a critique group
2.) Picking fonts (for covers, whatnot)
3.) Making a speed painting video
4.) How to accept a job (forms, specific dialog, and such)
    5.) School visits

You're awesome, Will. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights.

  2. Love it! LOL>

I'd like to know a little about the business end of illustration.
I've been getting contacted by quite a few authors who are self publishing their books through Createspace and Amazon was wondering how I should handle these type of clients...do I ask for money down or do I wait until after the initial rough draft stage and ask for half? Or do I just have them sign the contract and withhold the final high res image until the end of the job and have them pay at one time. It's a different kind of client than I'm use to dealing with but if there's money to be made I don't want to miss out.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

  6. Hello- I didnt notice the "ch-udders?" until today-LOL!
What is the best software for graphics for APPs? Are they just high res layers?
A interactive book vs. an app?
Is the SCBWI Bologna feasible for beginners or just more experienced and avanced PAL members? Any tutorials for Createspace with cover art?
I went to an SCBWI meeting and saw illustrations brought on large 4 x 3 foot paper while mine were on 10 x 14", I have been doing some on smaller paper to scan more truely without stitching and it seems to work for email- what are the pros and cons vs functions of size? Should SCWBI members think on display too? those are questions I wondered this week- Dyann

    1. Great questions! I'll put them on my list. I'm not sure about the large paper you're talking about at SCBWI meetings - I'm not familiar with that.

    2. Oh just one illustrator did her work so large and it was a critique group, so she brought it. I was just wondering is that something to keep in mind- display later? I use about the size of my large format scanner- but the BIg scanners are mucho $. I havent been to a conference yet, so are there displays? I have dispalyed like at Sci-Fi conventions where you buy booth space. I was just wondering pro and cons of size. I had 2 book dummys with me but I was wondering if I should work larger with display in mind? What do you think about that? I know with digital its not a problem LOL
